This post: 5 best National Day staycations
With National Day just around the corner, we are already making plans for what looks to be a long weekend (if you take just an additional day off). For some of us, this presents the perfect opportunity to go on a quick getaway and get some much needed rest and relaxation in a gorgeous new environment.
But as tempting as a vacation sounds, somehow it feels a little more special to celebrate the nation’s birthday right here in Singapore, with close friends and family. Be it an intimate gathering to watch the televised National Day Parade (because we all know how tough it is to score tickets to the live show), a tour around the city to reflect on how far it has come, or even an extravagant dinner, there are so many ways to engage in the festivities here.
In response to this, several hotels have trotted out attractive staycation packages for Singaporeans seeking a holiday without leaving the country. Here’s our list of 5 establishments that offer activities ranging from heritage trails to decadent meals, and most importantly, promise a memorable experience for all.
The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore
The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore has introduced an “Explore Singapore” room package, which includes overnight accommodation in its luxurious Club room and a 3-hour private guided tour to the ethnic enclaves of Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam. Guests will be transported via limousine and can expect to visit historical landmarks such as Sri Mariammam Temple and the Sultan Mosque.
The package also includes dinner for 2 at Colony restaurant — where you can feast on a wide array of seafood, Asian cuisine and Western fare — and a complimentary bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne to make the night extra-memorable.
Available from 8 to 10 August, 2016.

To mark Singapore’s 51st birthday, InterContinental Singapore has launched a National Day room package with 51% off rates for every second night booked at its stylish Deluxe Room. There is also complimentary daily breakfast for 2 at its newly refurbished Ash & Elm restaurant, which is known for its succulent meats and delectable European fare.
The promotion also comes with complimentary 2-hour heritage trails on 6, 9 and 13 August, where guests get to explore landmarks around the area and learn about how they’ve evolved since the nation’s early days.
Available from 5 to 14 August, 2016.

Pan Pacific Singapore
Joining in on the celebrations is Pan Pacific Singapore, which has rolled out a staycation promotion applicable for its Pacific Club rooms and suites. The package features perks such as champagne breakfast, late check-out time, evening cocktails and credits to spend on à la carte treatments at St Gregory Spa — all aimed to spoil guests silly.
To wind down the evening on a perfect note, guests can also catch a glimpse of the spectacular National Day Parade fireworks display from the posh Pacific Club lounge on the 38th floor.
Available on 6 and 9 August, 2016.

Guests will also be treated to heritage tours, where they can access preserved areas within the building and learn more about Singapore’s rich history.

Le Méridien Singapore, Sentosa
Launched in June, this hotel is a conversion project situated on the premises of the now-defunct Movenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa. Despite being newly opened, it’s already gearing up for the National Day festivities with a “Singapore Heritage Staycation” package, that comes with a daily buffet breakfast and special rates to stay in its Classic room or Heritage Merlion room. We recommend the latter, which comes with an unobstructed view of the Merlion statue outside.
For a little more indulgence, check out the hotel’s National Day-themed buffet that takes place on 9 August 2016, at World of Whisky and features a sumptuous spread of local delights such as Satay, Rojak, Bak Kut Teh and Gula Melaka cake.
The staycation package is available from 5 to 14 August, 2016.
