Berluti, the luxury Italian menswear brand, has recently appointed Haider Ackermann as their creative director. It comes as a surprise to the fashion world since everyone was expecting his appointment to be with in a womenswear brand.
It will certainly be interesting to see the mix of Ackermann’s romanticism and craziness incorporated into Berluti’s leather goods. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp graduate was seen as the ideal successor for Chanel, as said by Karl Lagerfield himself. His creations are often modern and dynamic, asymmetric and which combine a variety of materials. These pieces embody street and sophistication, and have been worn by Victoria Beckham, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West alike.
In an interview with the New York Times, Ackermann said that he doesn’t want to make people beautiful, but rather “to create attitude.” His exciting works will debut during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in January 2017. “I am very honoured to join Berluti. This house stands for the essence of luxury menswear and embracing this new adventure inspires me.”
