If you love home furnishings and you’ve not yet been to Republic of Fritz Hansen on Soi Somkid, it’s time to pay a visit. Norse Republics, the sole distributor of Fritz Hansen in Thailand, has taken an old house that formerly belonged to a noble familyand transformed it into a furniture showroom. The property now boasts a collection of classic and contemporary furniture, lightning and accessories by some of today’s most inspiring and recognised designers across the globe, including Jaime Hayon, Piero Lissoni, Kasper Salto and Cecilie Manz.
From boardroom to dining room to lounge area, Republic of Fritz Hansen presents numerous room settings that blend seamlessly, giving the appearance of a fully furnished home. Once you enter, you’ll find that every corner conveys a story through its exquisite charm. For instance, we fell in love with the living room where the Lune 2017 collection modular sofa is placed. Designed by Jaime Hayon and with sleek Nordic aesthetics, the stylish sofa just invites you to sit down and relax. Besides offering superior comfort, the sofa has a functional, modular system that gives you unlimited possibilities. You can build a straight two-seater or a larger L-shaped lounge to fit your space and needs.
Naturally, the showroom features a number of iconic chairs, including Arne Jacobsen’s Egg, Swan, and Series 7 chairs; and Poul Kjærholm’s PK22 chair and PK80 daybeds. From Hans Mannerhagen, Fritz Hansen’s master craftsman, we know that three élite Egg chairs have been specifically customised and sold to Bangkok residents so far. One of the three is a rare, exquisite work of art upholstered with two large pieces of un-dyed water buffalo leather. We were fortunate to have witnessed Hans, who will actually be retiring at the end of 2017, demonstrate the hand-stitching and finishing touches of this particular piece. Smooth with absolute no folds, the chair boasts a slick yet timeless design.
What’s new in house — and which we very much adore — is an exclusive range of home interior accessories named Objects. Besides larger furnishings, Republic of Fritz Hansen now produces simple, stylish, everyday home decorations. From vases to cushions to candleholders, they’ve thought of every little detail to ensure your home looks absolutely astonishing.
To order one of the iconic chairs for yourself, Norse Republics tells us each item’s price is dependent on the fabric that is selected, as well as where it is shipped from. We suggest you to pop in and check out the space first, and enquire more once you have a wish list curated.
