This post: Rolls Royce welcomes 2019 with the launch of the 4×4 Cullinan in India

British luxury automaker Rolls Royce is set to ride the Indian streets with yet another opulent creation. The Rolls Royce Cullinan is the brand’s first uber-luxurious SUV instead of a traditional sedan. After years of dedication towards architecting sedans, the British carmaker has finally decided to flip the switch after extensive customer requests and better understanding of the evolution of luxury cruising.

The Rolls Royce Cullinan is a 5864-pound, all-wheel-drive leviathan powered by a turbo V12. After making its first appearance in October last year via live stream, Rolls Royce decided to open up for booking in late 2018, with projected delivery for early 2019. The price-tag for this royal chariot is a sweet Rs. 6.95 cr. but goes up to 8.2 cr. Notably, it is Rolls Royce’s third most expensive model in India, after the Phantom VII and the Dawn.

The exclusive SUV is the brand’s only model so far to share the ‘Architecture of Luxury’ platform with the Phantom VIII. The ‘Architecture of Luxury’ is Rolls Royce’s stride towards creating an all-aluminium space-frame architecture designed by Rolls-Royce engineers that will underpin every future Rolls-Royce cruiser. The SUV, Rolls Royce’s first-of-its-kind, is built for off-road endeavours as well, being a 4X4 and bearing a jaw-dropping turbo V12 engine.

Design-wise, the Cullinan bears the brand’s signature suicide doors along with larger front and rear bumpers to cater to its heightened ground clearance. The SUV stays true to Rolls Royce’s classic square face and features the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ hood ornament. Residing beneath is a stunning 6.75-litre V12 petrol engine that is capable of burning out 571 HP and 850Nm of pure off-road torque for adventure weekends. All of this geared by an 8-speed automatic box that can max out to speeds of 155 mph.

Rolls Royce’s bespoke treatment extends here as well, although they officially haven’t disclosed details yet. If we were to guess, there would be premium leather seating and dashboard fabric options, mini-tables, champagne fridges and maybe even sun-roof enhancements. But of course, when it comes to pushing the conventional limits of luxury and bespoke, Rolls Royce has a no-holds-barred approach. However, bespoke enhancements could bump the price-tag up by Rs. 92 lakh.
