The hype about hydration: Everything you need to know

Even in Singapore’s humid climes, it’s possible to be plagued by dry skin. Keeping skin healthy and hydrated requires a mix of exfoliants, masks, hydrating creams and even oils — but you wouldn’t be blamed for being lazy about the whole routine. It happens.

However (speaking from personal experience) it is possible to get your skin up to scratch in a matter of weeks (two, in fact) with a heavy and effective dose of exfoliating, “serum-ing” and masking. Here’s what you’ll need:

This post: The hype about hydration: Everything you need to know

Get in deep: Serums

Your skin will literally slurp up serum, even better when its one that’s packed with ingredients designed to encourage the skin to moisturise itself. Aesop’s new Lucent Facial Concentrate is a great one to use, with its high intensity vitamins including Vitamin C, Vitamin B3 and Sodium Carrageenan. Best yet, it combines perfectly with the brand’s Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Mask for an overnight treatment that literally has you waking up with brighter skin.

Regular use of Aesop’s Lucent Facial Concentrate leaves your skin naturally more hydrated.

Another serum to add to your hydration regime is Skin Inc’s Skin Revival Infusion Serum. Newly-launched, its packed with powerful apple stem cell extract, botanicals and hyaluronic acid to plump and erase signs of ageing, as well as improve cell renewal.

Do nothing (literally): Masks

Personally, I find masking tedious. Having to sit still for 20 minutes effectively doing nothing is harder than it sounds. However I now understand why so many skincare fans swear by SK-II’s Facial Treatment Masks. These masks are soothing, cooling and absolutely dripping in goodness, which absorbs easily into the skin. They’re also good to use every other day when leading up to a big event.

Scrub it out:

You have to be careful with scrubs, because you don’t want anything too harsh on the skin which will effectively just strip it of moisture. The Clé de Peau Beauté Cleansing Clay Scrub is perfect, with its delicate beads you can barely feel. Washing it off, your skin still feels hydrated and relaxed.

Night-time delights: Treatments

We’ve waxed lyrical before on the beauty of night treatments, which give the skin a good dose of everything it needs at a time when it can rest and recharge without you stressing it out. Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Intensive Recovery Ampoules, paired with their Advanced Night Repair Serum can work wonders. The ampoules have an light oil texture which feel rich and relaxing on the skin.

Each little ampoule packs a punch of hydration for the sleeping skin.

Finally, as difficult as it might be, rest. They say the skin renews itself best between the hours of 11pm and 8am. So while it might seem early for night owls, that’s the best time to hit the sack and sleep off the stress of the day. And don’t forget to drink water.
